What it covers
E525 is an add-on in Operations of the Breast for an excision carried out after the lesion has been localized with a mammographic wire or radioactive seeds (M25).
It is printed under three procedures: R107 tumour or tissue excision for diagnostic biopsy and/or treatment, R111 partial mastectomy or wedge resection (M25), and the oncoplastic breast conserving lumpectomies R102, R158 and R159 (M26). It isn't a stand-alone service.
Billing rules
- Payable only in addition to R107, R111, R102, R158 or R159 on the same claim (M25, M26).
- Bill it only when the excision followed localization with a mammographic wire or radioactive seeds (M25).
- Marked #: premises, equipment, supplies and personnel are not included in the fee, and in hospital are funded by the hospital budget (SP1, GP13).
Often billed with
- R102 level 1 oncoplastic lumpectomy or R111 partial mastectomy, the procedures it most often accompanies (M25, M26).
- R107 excision of breast tumour or tissue for diagnosis or treatment (M25).
- Z427 sentinel node biopsy per draining basin; E505 limited axillary sampling isn't payable in addition to Z427 (R2, M25).
- A034 General Surgery partial assessment: the surgeon can't bill a day-surgery admission assessment unless it is the major pre-operative visit where the decision to operate was made (GP4, SP2).
