Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
Per-treatment fee for chronic haemodialysis at an auxiliary treatment centre when the patient gets fewer than 3 treatments there in the week.
What it covers
An auxiliary treatment centre is a place other than the patient's principal treatment centre. G866 pays per treatment for intermittent haemodialysis there, to a maximum of 2 per patient per 7-day period (J39–J40).
If 3 or more treatments are given at the auxiliary centre in the 7-day period, the service becomes the full weekly team fee regardless of the number of treatments (J40).
Billing rules
- Maximum 2 per patient per 7-day period, which starts at midnight Sunday (J39–J40).
- With 3 or more treatments at the auxiliary centre that week, claim the weekly team fee instead (J40).
- The principal treatment centre's weekly fee is reduced pro rata, 1/7 per day, for days the patient wasn't its responsibility (J39).
- Fewer than 3 auxiliary-centre treatments in the week are not part of the team fee, which is why G866 is billed separately (J39).
- Marked #: the fee doesn't include premises, equipment, supplies or staff (J1).
Common rejections
- AM1: More than 2 G866 treatments per patient in the 7-day period were claimed; 3 or more treatments are billed as the weekly team fee (J40).
