Participant fee for a pre-scheduled multidisciplinary cancer conference, per patient discussed, with about 10 minutes of discussion needed per patient.
What it covers
A multidisciplinary cancer conference (MCC) is held to discuss and direct the management of one or more cancer patients. The physician attends in person, by phone or by videoconference as a participant or chair, following the roles and minimum standards set by Ontario Health (A29).
K708 is the participant fee, per patient discussed. The chair bills K709, a radiologist participant K710 and a nuclear medicine participant for PET patients K711 (A29).
Billing rules
- Payable only if the MCC meets Ontario Health's minimum standards, including attendance, and is pre-scheduled (A29).
- The total discussion time must meet the table: 10 minutes for 1 patient, 20 for 2, up to 80 for 8. Otherwise the number of patients paid is cut to match the time. Time per patient doesn't have to be 10 minutes each (A29, A30).
- Only if you actively participate and your participation is documented (A29).
- Maximum 5 K708 per patient per day, any physician, and 8 per physician per day. Only one of K708, K709, K710 or K711 is paid to you the same day (A29).
- Any other insured service during the MCC is not payable. It isn't payable if you are paid other than fee-for-service for preparing or attending (A29).
- Not payable to Radiation Oncology (34), Diagnostic Radiology (33) or Laboratory Medicine (28) (A29).
- The record must name the patient and physician participants, the total discussion time and the outcome for each patient (A29).
