What it covers

K960 is the Table I travel premium for a special visit to an emergency department on weekdays, 07:00 to 17:00 (GP70). A travel premium pays for travel from one location to another (GP66).

Table I premiums are for physicians who are not the scheduled or on-call emergency department physicians (GP67, GP70).

Billing rules

  • Maximum 2 per time period (GP70).
  • One travel premium per trip, however many patients you see (GP66).
  • Not payable for moving within the same hospital complex or between buildings on the same hospital campus (GP66).
  • Not payable to Emergency Department Physicians as defined on GP67; they use Table V (GP67).
  • Not payable with H-prefix emergency department codes, for patients seen on rounds, or for elective admissions (GP65).
  • Bill an A-prefix service from the General Listings with the premium, and chart the time of the visit (GP69).

Often billed with

  • K990 first person seen premium, weekday daytime (payable on weekday daytime only when a travel premium is payable) (GP66, GP70).
  • K991 additional person seen premium (GP70).

Common rejections

  • AD9: 'Premium not allowed alone': submit K960 on the same claim as the service it goes with (GP69).
