Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Additional routine physiatrist visits to a nursing home or home for the aged resident after the first 2 in a month. Maximum 3 per month.

What it covers

A subsequent visit is any routine assessment after the patient's admission to a long-term care institution (GP49).

W318 covers further subsequent visits in a nursing home or home for the aged, to a maximum of 3 per patient per month (A179).

Billing rules

  • Maximum 3 per patient per month (A179).
  • Visits for an acute intercurrent illness that are not special visits are billed as W121, whatever the monthly count; if a special visit is needed, use the General Listings (A prefix) and premiums (GP49).
  • If you are already in the institution and see your own patient, use the W codes; seeing another physician's patient on an emergency basis uses the General Listings (A prefix) (GP49).

Common rejections

  • AM1: OHIP describes AM1 as 'Service Limit Exceeded': more than 3 W318 visits for this patient in the month (A179).
