Billing rules
- Use when the dilatation needs a general anaesthetic; otherwise bill Z621 (T11, SP5 §19).
- No claim for dilating the male urethra before cystoscopy unless urethral stricture is the primary diagnosis (T6 preamble §3).
- Payable at nil when claimed with Z615 (T11).
- A Z-code is an independent operative procedure: if your major pre-operative visit was in the past 12 months, only a minor assessment (family physicians) or partial assessment (specialists) is payable before it that day; if the major pre-op visit is the same day, no other assessment before it is payable (SP4 §13).
Common rejections
- A2B: OHIP describes this as 'Wrong sex for service': Z619 is listed for male patients; check the patient's sex on the claim (T11).
