Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Dilatation of a male urethral stricture under local anaesthetic.

What it covers

Z621 is dilatation of a urethral stricture in a male patient, under local anaesthetic (T11). The general anaesthetic version is Z619 (T11).

Billing rules

  • Use when no general anaesthetic is needed; under general anaesthetic bill Z619 (T11, SP5 §19).
  • No claim for dilating the male urethra before cystoscopy unless urethral stricture is the primary diagnosis (T6 preamble §3).
  • Payable at nil when claimed with filiform and follower dilation Z615 (T11).
  • A Z-code is an independent operative procedure: if your major pre-operative visit was in the past 12 months, only a minor assessment (family physicians) or partial assessment (specialists) is payable before it that day; if the major pre-op visit is the same day, no other assessment before it is payable (SP4 §13).

Common rejections

  • A2B: OHIP describes this as 'Wrong sex for service': Z621 is listed for male patients; check the patient's sex on the claim (T11).
