Code
A36
Description
Claimed by Other Practitioner

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Another practitioner already claimed this service for the patient, so OHIP rejected yours.

What it means

A36 means the service was claimed by another practitioner. OHIP pays a listed service once, so the second claim was rejected.

When several physicians each do part of one listed service, there is one fee and they share it (General Preamble, GP8–GP12).

Common causes

  • Another physician, such as a walk-in clinic or hospital colleague, billed the same service
  • Two physicians in a group both billed the visit
  • The claim was billed under the wrong physician's number

How to fix it

  1. Check the patient, service date and fee code.
  2. Find out which physician billed the service.
  3. If their claim is right, don't resubmit.
  4. If you provided the service and their claim is wrong, call the Service Support Contact Centre (1-800-262-6524) before resubmitting.

Don't resubmit if

  • The other practitioner rightly billed the service.
