AHA — Fee schedule code and time period mismatch

Wrong code for time period

The fee code doesn't match the time period when the service happened, such as weekday daytime versus nights.

What to do: Check the service date and start time in the chart and bill the code for that period.

Code
AHA
Description
Fee schedule code and time period mismatch

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

AHA means the fee code doesn't match the time period of the service. Check the time and day the service started and bill the code for that period.

What it means

AHA is described as 'Fee schedule code and time period mismatch'. It isn't on the Ministry's current published list of Error Report codes (December 2022), so there is no official explanation of which codes it checks.

Some fee codes depend on when the service happened. For example, emergency department H-codes have separate codes for weekday daytime, weekday evenings, Friday evening and weekend or holiday daytime and evenings, and nights (A16), and special visit premiums differ by time of day and day of week. Billing a code for one period when the service fell in another is the kind of mismatch this code describes.

Common causes

  • The code for a different time period was billed (for example a daytime code for an evening service)
  • A weekend or holiday code billed for a weekday, or the reverse
  • A wrong service date

How to fix it

  1. Check the service date and the time the service started in the chart.
  2. Look up the code's time period in the Schedule and choose the code for the period the service actually fell in.
  3. Resubmit the corrected claim within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process: one stale-dated claim file through MCEDT, then an email to [email protected] with the Error Reports showing the original submission date.

Don't resubmit if

  • The code already matches the date and time in the chart. Look for another cause first.

How APEX handles it

APEX reads your error reports and remittance advice from MCEDT and lists claims rejected with this code in its Correction Centre for you to correct and resubmit. See how APEX works · Pricing
