DW — LTC patient: earlier procedure not allowed with monthly management - fee adjusted to pay the difference

Reduced for W010

An earlier service for this long-term care patient is part of W010, so OHIP reduced this payment by what it already paid.

What to do: Add up the month's payments for the patient; if the total equals W010, there is nothing to fix.

Description
LTC patient: earlier procedure not allowed with monthly management - fee adjusted to pay the difference

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

DW: an earlier service for this LTC patient is part of W010, so OHIP reduced this payment by what it already paid. Usually nothing to fix.

What it means

DW appears on the Remittance Advice (RA) when OHIP has already paid a service for a long-term care patient that is included in the monthly management fee, W010. Instead of recovering the earlier payment, OHIP reduces this payment and pays only the difference.

When W010 is paid, the services it includes are not payable to any physician for that patient that month (GP52). The Schedule tells physicians not to submit claims for W-prefix services that are components of W010 for the same month (GP52).

Common causes

  • A visit or procedure included in W010 was billed and paid before the W010 claim for the same month
  • Another physician billed an included service for the patient that month

How to fix it

  1. Add up what was paid for this patient for the month, including the earlier service and this line.
  2. If the total equals W010, there is nothing to fix.
  3. In future, don't bill the component services separately in a month you bill W010.
  4. If you think the payment is wrong, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.

Don't resubmit if

  • The claim is already on your RA. A new claim for the same service will be treated as a duplicate. Use an RAI instead.
