- Code
- E9
- Description
- Service date after eligibility ended - no response to Notice to Register
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
E9 means the patient's coverage ended because they didn't respond to a Notice to Register. The patient needs to contact ServiceOntario.
What it means
E9 appears on the Remittance Advice (RA) when the service date is after the patient's eligibility ended, and it ended because the patient did not respond to the Ministry's Notice to Register.
The patient likely still lives in Ontario, but their coverage was stopped until they register.
Common causes
- The patient didn't respond to a Notice to Register
- The notice went to an old address
How to fix it
- Tell the patient their coverage has ended and ask them to contact ServiceOntario to register.
- Check the patient's eligibility again for the service date once they have done so.
- If their coverage is reinstated for the service date, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date.
Don't resubmit if
- The patient's coverage hasn't been reinstated for the service date.
- The claim is already on your RA. A new claim for the same service will be treated as a duplicate. Use an RAI instead.
