- Description
- Patient not eligible on service date. Services on or after the 20th of this month won't be paid unless eligibility changes
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
EA warns the patient wasn't eligible on the service date. Services on or after the 20th of this month won't be paid unless that changes.
What it means
EA appears on the Remittance Advice (RA) when the service date is not within an eligible period for the patient. It also warns that services on or after the 20th of this month will not be paid unless the patient's eligibility status changes.
It is both an explanation for this line and a warning about future claims for the same patient.
Common causes
- The patient's OHIP coverage has lapsed or is not in effect
- The patient hasn't completed a registration step with ServiceOntario
How to fix it
- Check the amount paid on the line.
- Tell the patient that OHIP shows them as not eligible and ask them to contact ServiceOntario as soon as possible.
- Run a health card validation check before the patient's next visit.
- If the patient's eligibility is corrected for the service date and the line wasn't paid, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date.
Don't resubmit if
- The claim is already on your RA. A new claim for the same service will be treated as a duplicate. Use an RAI instead.
