- Code
- PA2
- Description
- PA claim missing supervising physician in Refer Physician field
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
PA2 means a Physician Assistant Pilot claim didn't name the supervising physician's solo billing number in the Refer Physician field.
What it means
Error PA2 means the Physician Assistant (PA) Pilot claim was rejected as invalid. When the PA is the submitting physician, the claim must show the solo billing number of the supervising physician in the "Refer Physician" field. It was missing or not usable.
Common causes
- The Refer Physician field was left blank
- A group number was entered instead of the supervising physician's solo billing number
- A different physician's number (for example, the original referring doctor) was entered
How to fix it
- Enter the supervising physician's solo billing number in the Refer Physician field.
- Check that the supervising physician is affiliated with the PA Pilot group (otherwise the claim will reject with PA3).
- Resubmit the claim within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process.
