Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
RD means this service was already paid through Reciprocal Medical Billing (out-of-province billing), so OHIP won't pay it again.
What it means
Code RD means OHIP refused this line as a duplicate: the same service was already paid through the Reciprocal Medical Billing System (RMBS).
RMBS is how Ontario physicians bill for insured services to patients covered by another province or territory (except Quebec).
Common causes
- The same service was submitted both as an RMB claim and as a regular claim
- An RMB claim was resubmitted after it had already been paid
How to fix it
- Find the earlier RMB payment for the same patient, date and service.
- If it was paid, there is nothing more to do.
- If the two claims were for different services, send an RAI with the details. Send it through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date.
Don't resubmit if
- The service was already paid through RMBS.
- The claim is already on your Remittance Advice. Use an RAI, not a new claim.
How APEX handles it
