Error code

V70 — Service date is after the file/batch creation date

Service date in the future

The service date on the claim is later than the date the claim file was created, usually a typo in the day, month or year.

What to do: Check the chart for the real service date and correct it; if the visit hasn't happened yet, hold the claim.

Code
V70
Description
Service date is after the file/batch creation date

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

V70 means the service date is later than the date the claim file was created. Correct the date, or wait until the service has been provided.

What it means

V70 means the date of service on the claim is after the date the claim file (or batch) was created. OHIP will not accept a claim dated in the future.

This is almost always a typing error in the date, such as the wrong month or year.

Common causes

  • A typo in the day, month or year
  • The claim was entered ahead of a booked appointment and sent before the visit happened
  • The computer's date was wrong when the file was created

How to fix it

  1. Check the chart for the real date of service and correct the claim.
  2. If the service has not happened yet, hold the claim until it has.
  3. Resubmit the corrected claim. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process: one stale-dated claim file through MCEDT, then an email to [email protected] with the Error Reports showing the original submission date.

Don't resubmit if

  • The service has not yet been provided.

How APEX handles it

APEX reads your error reports and remittance advice from MCEDT and lists claims rejected with this code in its Correction Centre for you to correct and resubmit. See how APEX works · Pricing
