Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

Paediatric consultation of at least 90 minutes for an infant, child or teen with complex neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism.

What it covers

A neurodevelopmental consultation includes all elements of a paediatric consultation (A265) for an infant, child or adolescent with complex neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. autism, global developmental disorders), with at least 90 minutes of direct contact with the patient and caregiver (A168).

Time excludes other separately billable services and non-patient-facing time such as chart, imaging or documentation review (A169). Less complex conditions, e.g. attention deficit disorder, are paid at a lesser fee (A169).

Billing rules

  • Maximum one per patient, per physician, per 12 months (A168).
  • Record start and stop times in the chart, or the payment is reduced to a lesser fee (A168).
  • Needs all consultation requirements, including a written request and a written report (GP16).
  • Counts toward the consultation limits for the same diagnosis (GP18).
  • Detention (K001) may start only after 180 minutes (GP29–GP31).
  • Patients under 16 get the specialist consultation age premium (GP64).
  • A paediatrician can bill for a patient 18 or older only if they saw the patient in the 12 months before the 18th birthday, ongoing chronic-condition care is needed and the patient is under 22, or with written Ministry prior approval (A168).
  • Can be done by video only (not phone) with an existing relationship; add K300A (AJ2, A66, A70).

Common rejections

  • ARF: OHIP describes this as 'Missing physician referring number': a consultation needs the referring physician's or NP's billing number from the written request (GP16).
  • AM1: OHIP describes this as 'Service limit exceeded': more than one A667 for the patient in 12 months (A168).
  • AT3: Billed as virtual care (K300A/K301A) and OHIP found no existing patient-physician relationship, such as an in-person service by you in the past 24 months (A66).
