Explanation

Premium for the first patient seen on a non-elective home visit on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday between 7:00 and midnight.

What it covers

B993 is the Table VI special visit premium for the first person seen on a non-elective visit to a patient's home (not an LTC home) on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, 07:00 to 24:00 (GP75). The travel premium for the same period is B963 (GP75).

Home means the patient's residence, including an apartment, retirement home, hotel, shelter, group home or similar, but not a hospital or LTC home (GP4). Holidays are the ones defined on GP3.

Billing rules

  • Maximum 20 first and additional person premiums combined per time period (GP75).
  • Only the first patient seen is paid, even if you see several people in one home or in several units of a multiple resident dwelling such as an apartment block or retirement home (GP75).
  • Elective home visits use the Elective home visit column (B960 travel, B990 first person) at any time, not B993 (GP65, GP75).
  • Not payable with A001 or A007 done in the home; travel is part of those services (GP75).
  • Bill an A-prefix assessment from the General Listings with the premium, and chart the time of the visit (GP69).
  • Holiday rates apply only on the holidays defined on GP3 (GP3).
  • FHO: B993 is a Schedule 2 core code (Agreement p.76) and counts toward the home visits special payment (Agreement p.67 §8.9).

Often billed with

  • B963 home travel premium, Saturday, Sunday or holiday (max 6 per time period) (GP75).
  • A900 complex house call assessment for a frail elderly or housebound patient (A6).
  • A902 pronouncement of death in the home (A6).

Common rejections

  • AD9: 'Premium not allowed alone': submit B993 on the same claim as the A-prefix assessment it goes with (GP69).
  • A3H: More premiums than the Table VI maximum for that time period were claimed (max 20 first and additional person premiums) (GP75).
