What it covers

C034 is a specific re-assessment for a non-emergency hospital in-patient in the General Surgery (03) listings (A107).

A specific re-assessment is a specialist service requiring a full, relevant history and physical examination of one or more systems (GP23).

Billing rules

  • Limited to 2 per patient per physician per consecutive 12 months, except re-assessments for hospital admissions; extra ones are paid at a lesser fee (GP23).
  • The admission assessment is a specific re-assessment when a surgical specialist admits for a Z-code (IOP) procedure after assessing the patient before admission for the same illness, or when you assessed the patient and then admitted them for the same illness (GP23, GP40).
  • As a surgeon, the admission assessment is not payable unless it is the major pre-operative visit (SP2, GP40).
  • Routine visits after the admission assessment are subsequent visits (C032, C037, C039) (GP43).
