General surgeon's repeat consultation for a hospital in-patient: same problem, after another physician has cared for the patient in between.
What it covers
C036 is a repeat consultation for a non-emergency hospital in-patient in the General Surgery (03) listings (A107).
A repeat consultation is an additional consultation by the same consultant for the same presenting problem, after another physician has given care in the interval since the first consultation (GP19).
Billing rules
- Has the same requirements as a consultation, including a new written request from the referring physician, nurse practitioner or dental surgeon (GP19).
- Repeat consultations do not count toward the consultation limits (GP18).
- If the repeat consultation requirements are not met, it is paid as an assessment (GP18).
- Specialist repeat consultations take the age premium for patients under 16 (GP64).
- For emergency calls and other special visits to in-patients, use the General Listings and special visit premiums (A107).
Common rejections
- ARF: OHIP describes this as 'Missing physician referring number': a consultation needs a written request from the referring physician or nurse practitioner, and their number belongs on the claim (GP16).
