What it covers

C038 is concurrent care in the General Surgery (03) in-patient listings (A107).

Concurrent care is any routine assessment in hospital by the consultant after their first major assessment of the patient, when the family physician remains the most responsible physician but asks the consultant to keep directing care (GP48).

Billing rules

• Limited to 4 claims per week in the first week of concurrent care and 2 per week after that; extra visits are not payable (GP48).
• Use only when the family physician remains the most responsible physician (GP48).
• For emergency calls and other special visits to in-patients, use the General Listings and special visit premiums (A107).

Common rejections

• AHF: OHIP describes this as 'Concurrent or supportive care same period': check for other concurrent or supportive care claims in the same period and the 4-then-2-per-week limit (GP48).
