Error code
30 — Service is not a benefit of OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan)
Not an insured service
OHIP paid $0 on this line because the service, as billed, isn't an insured benefit; $0 tracking codes always come back this way.
What to do: Nothing to do for $0 tracking codes or K300A/K301A; if a priced service was refused, check the Schedule of Benefits.
- Code
- 30
- Description
- Service is not a benefit of OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan)
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
OHIP paid $0 for this line because it isn't an insured benefit. On $0 tracking codes and virtual-visit indicators this is normal.
What it means
Code 30 means OHIP will not pay this line because the service, as billed, is not an insured OHIP benefit. The line still appears on your Remittance Advice (RA), usually at $0.
Most of the time this is expected. Tracking and exclusion codes, such as the preventive care tracking codes, are billed at $0 and come back at $0 with code 30. Virtual care claims often show 30 together with B2: the modality indicators K300A (video) and K301A (telephone) are $0 tracking codes, so there is nothing to pay on that line.
Code 30 only needs a closer look when a service you expected to be paid for comes back at $0 with this code.
Common causes
- A $0 tracking or exclusion code (expected)
- A K300A or K301A modality indicator on a virtual visit (expected)
- A service that OHIP does not insure
- A fee code that does not match the insured service you provided
How to fix it
- Check which line carries code 30 and what it was billed at.
- If it is a $0 tracking code or a K300A/K301A indicator, there is nothing to fix. For a virtual visit, check the amount paid on the main service line instead.
- If a priced service was refused, check the Schedule of Benefits to confirm the service is insured and that the fee code matches what you did.
- If the service is not insured, no correction will make OHIP pay it.
- If you believe it is insured and correctly coded, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with supporting details.
Don't resubmit if
- The line is a $0 tracking code or a K300A/K301A modality indicator.
- The service is not insured by OHIP.
- You disagree with the decision on a claim that is already on the RA. Use an RAI, not a new claim.
How APEX handles it
APEX treats 30 as a code that can't be corrected and keeps it out of the Correction Centre queue. Lines with 30 on K300A/K301A indicators, on $0 tracking codes, or on a Q200A rostering code are counted as Settled, not rejected. See how APEX works · Pricing
