B2 — Paid at the OHIP rate for phone virtual care
Paid at phone rate
OHIP paid this telephone virtual visit at the telephone rate, which is lower than the in-person fee.
What to do: Nothing to do if the visit was by phone; if by video, check whether K301A was billed by mistake.
- Code
- B2
- Description
- Paid at the OHIP rate for phone virtual care
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
OHIP paid this telephone virtual visit at its telephone rate, which is lower than the in-person fee. It's a payment note, not a rejection.
What it means
B2 tells you the service was paid under the Schedule of Benefits rules for telephone virtual care. It explains the payment; it is not an error. It came in with the virtual care framework for services on or after December 1, 2022.
Comprehensive virtual care, for patients you have an existing relationship with, is billed as the regular service code plus a modality indicator: K300A for video or K301A for telephone. Video is paid at the in-person rate. Telephone is paid at a reduced rate, 85% of the equivalent in-person assessment, so a phone visit normally pays less than the amount billed.
B2 often appears on the same virtual claim as code 30, which sits on the $0 indicator line.
Common causes
- A comprehensive virtual visit billed with K301A (telephone)
- Any telephone virtual service paid at the telephone rate
How to fix it
- Look at the amount paid on the service line, not the code.
- For a telephone visit, compare it with 85% of the in-person fee for that code. If it matches, there is nothing to do.
- If the visit was actually by video, check whether K301A was billed by mistake instead of K300A. A correction to a paid claim goes through eSubmit or an RAI, not a new claim.
- If the paid amount is below the telephone rate, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date.
Don't resubmit if
- The paid amount matches the telephone rate.
- You want the in-person rate for a telephone visit. The reduction is the rule, not an error.
- The claim is already on the RA. Billing the same visit again would be a duplicate.
How APEX handles it
APEX treats B2 as a code that can't be corrected and keeps it out of the Correction Centre. K300A/K301A lines with B2 or 30 count as Settled, and APEX expects codes billed with K301A to pay 85% of the billed amount, so it does not report that difference as an underpayment.
