Code
B8
Description
Not payable as a virtual service

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

OHIP didn't pay this line because the fee code can't be billed as a virtual service. Only codes listed in Appendix J are payable virtually.

What it means

Code B8 means the service was billed as virtual care (with K300A or K301A), but this fee code isn't payable when given by video or telephone.

Appendix J of the Schedule lists every service that can be given as comprehensive virtual care. Any other service given by video or phone, unless it is limited virtual care (A101, A102) or specifically listed, is not eligible for payment (A68). For example, the general assessment (A003) and general re-assessment (A004) are not on the list. Only the premiums listed for virtual care are payable on virtual services (A74).

Common causes

  • A code that isn't in Appendix J billed with K300A or K301A
  • A premium or add-on that isn't payable on virtual services
  • An in-person service billed with a modality indicator by mistake

How to fix it

  1. Check the chart: was the service virtual or in person?
  2. If it was in person and the modality indicator was added by mistake, send an RAI to correct it.
  3. If it was virtual, check Appendix J for a code whose requirements match what you did. If a different fee code correctly describes what you did, don't send a new claim for the line already on the RA. The Ministry's guidance for a wrong fee code on a claim posted on a Remittance Advice is to submit an RAI (eSubmit or form 0918-84) within 7 months of the RA date.
  4. If no Appendix J code fits, the service isn't payable virtually.

Don't resubmit if

  • No Appendix J code describes the service you provided.
  • The claim is already on the RA and you only disagree with the decision. Use an RAI, not a new claim.

How APEX handles it

APEX reads your error reports and remittance advice from MCEDT and, for many claims rejected with this code, works out the fix for you to approve before it is resubmitted. See how APEX works · Pricing
