- Code
- AD8
- Description
- Not allowed alone
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
This fee code can't be billed on its own. Add the service it must be billed with, or remove it.
What it means
AD8 means the code is not allowed alone. It is an add-on or premium that is only payable with another service, and that service isn't on the claim.
The Schedule marks such codes as payable in addition to, or with, a named service.
Common causes
- An add-on code billed without its main service
- The main service billed on a separate claim
- The main service rejected for another reason, leaving the add-on alone
How to fix it
- Look up the code in the Schedule of Benefits and note which services it must be billed with.
- Put the main service on the same claim, or remove the add-on if no qualifying service was provided.
- Resubmit the corrected claim. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process described under VJ7.
Don't resubmit if
- No qualifying main service was provided.
