Explanation

GF: the patient's OHIP coverage has lapsed. Ask them to contact ServiceOntario. Future services may have to be billed to the patient.
What it means
GF means the Ministry's records show the patient's OHIP coverage has lapsed. The message warns that future claims for this patient will not be paid by OHIP until coverage is restored, and the patient may be billed instead.
Common causes
- The patient did not renew their health card
- The patient left Ontario or did not meet residency rules
- Coverage ended for another reason on the Ministry's file
How to fix it
- Check the amount paid on this line.
- Tell the patient their coverage has lapsed and ask them to contact ServiceOntario.
- Run a health card validation check before the next visit.
- For services after coverage ended, bill the patient or wait until coverage is restored.
Don't resubmit if
- A validation check shows the patient is still uncovered.
