- Description
- Telemedicine SLI missing or not OTN
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
ET5 means a claim had a telemedicine tracking code, but the service location indicator was missing or not OTN. Check how the visit should be billed.
What it means
ET5 means the claim included a telemedicine tracking code, but the service location indicator (SLI) was missing or was not 'OTN'. Telemedicine claims needed both.
The July 2026 Schedule of Benefits has no telemedicine (OTN) fee rules. Virtual care is now billed with the in-person code plus K300A (video) or K301A (telephone), or with A101/A102 for limited virtual care. The Ministry also lists V73 (OTN SLI No Longer Active).
Common causes
- A telemedicine tracking code left on a virtual visit claim
- An older telemedicine billing template still in use
How to fix it
- Check whether the claim has a telemedicine tracking code.
- For virtual visits, remove the telemedicine tracking code and bill under the current virtual care rules: the in-person code with K300A or K301A, or A101/A102.
- Resubmit the corrected claim within three months of the service date. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process.
