Code
H6
Description
Allowed as supportive or concurrent care

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

H6: the hospital visit was paid as supportive or concurrent care instead of the code billed. Check your role in the patient's care.

What it means

H6 means OHIP paid your hospital visit at the supportive care or concurrent care rate, because another physician was the patient's most responsible physician.

Concurrent care is a routine in-hospital assessment by a consultant after their first major assessment, when the family physician stays the most responsible physician and asks the consultant to keep directing care. Supportive care is a routine in-hospital visit by a family physician who is not treating the case, at the patient's or family's request, for liaison or reassurance. Each is limited to 4 claims in the first week and 2 per week after that (Schedule GP48).

Common causes

  • A subsequent visit billed when another physician was the most responsible physician
  • A family physician's liaison visit billed as a regular hospital visit

How to fix it

  1. Check who was the most responsible physician on the visit date.
  2. If you were the most responsible physician, send a Remittance Advice Inquiry (RAI) through eSubmit, or on form 0918-84, within 7 months of the RA date, with details of your role.
  3. Otherwise, the payment is correct.

Don't resubmit if

  • The claim is already on your RA. Use an RAI, not a new claim, if you disagree.
