Error code
VT1 — Only 1 VTC allowed
Two virtual care modalities
The claim carried more than one modality indicator (K300A video or K301A telephone) for the same service.
What to do: Keep the one modality used for more than half the visit, as documented in the chart, remove the other, and resubmit.
- Code
- VT1
- Description
- Only 1 VTC allowed
Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
VT1 means more than one virtual modality indicator (K300A or K301A) was sent for the same service. Keep one and resubmit.
What it means
VT1 ("Only 1 VTC allowed") means the claim carried more than one virtual technology (modality) code for the same service. Only one modality indicator is eligible per service, patient and date: K300A for video or K301A for telephone.
INFOBulletin 210904 says that when both are submitted, K300A is accepted and K301A gets explanatory code D7. Under the framework that started December 1, 2022, the Ministry announced error AT1 ("Only One Modality Allowed") for claims with both a video and a telephone modality on the same service date.
Common causes
- Both K300A and K301A on the same claim
- The same modality indicator entered twice
How to fix it
- Check the chart for the modality used. If the visit switched part way, the Schedule pays by the modality used for more than half the time (Schedule A69).
- Keep one modality indicator on the claim and remove the other.
- Resubmit the corrected claim. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process: one stale-dated claim file through MCEDT, then an email to [email protected] with the Error Reports showing the original submission date.
Don't resubmit if
- Both indicators are still on the claim.
How APEX handles it
APEX reads your error reports and remittance advice from MCEDT and lists claims rejected with this code in its Correction Centre for you to correct and resubmit. See how APEX works · Pricing
