Routine hospital visit by a family physician, at the patient's or family's request, to a patient in another physician's care, for liaison or reassurance.

What it covers

Supportive care is a routine hospital visit by a family physician who is not actively treating the case, where the patient is under another physician's care and the visit is made at the request of the patient or family for liaison or reassurance (GP48).

C010 is the Family Practice & Practice in General listing for supportive care (A13).

Billing rules

  • Limit 4 claims per week in the first week of supportive care, counted from the first supportive visit, then 2 per week; extra claims are not payable (GP48).
  • C101 (ICU/CCU visit premium) is not payable with supportive care (GP103).
  • Can be done by video only (not phone) as comprehensive virtual care; for in-patients the virtual physician must not be the MRP and other conditions apply (Appendix J AJ2, A69).
  • FHO: counts toward the hospital services special payment (Agreement Schedule 3, p.90; §8.5, p.66). In-patient services to enrolled patients are paid full fee-for-service (Agreement p.64 §7.2).

Common rejections

  • AHF: 'Concurrent or supportive care same period': OHIP found concurrent or supportive care already paid for this patient in the same period, or the weekly limit was exceeded (GP48).
  • AT2: 'Must include video modality': C010 is a video-only virtual service; it can't be billed by phone (Appendix J AJ2).
