What it covers
C020 is the complex dermatology assessment for hospital in-patients, subject to the same conditions as A020 (A95).
Eligible conditions include complex systemic disease with skin signs, prurigo nodularis, complex drug reactions, complex psoriasis or dermatitis, and complex skin cancer or high skin cancer risk (A93, A94).
Billing rules
- Must include all elements of a specific assessment, or OHIP pays a lesser assessment (A94, A95).
- Limit: 6 per patient per physician per 12 months (A94, A95).
- Detention (K001) starts only after 60 minutes (GP30).
- For emergency calls and other special visits to in-patients, use the General Listings (A prefix) with premiums instead (A95).
- Virtual care: video only (Appendix J AJ2), with an existing patient relationship and the K300A video indicator; not payable by phone (A66, A70). Virtual in-patient services need all of: you are not the MRP, no physician on staff with the expertise (documented by the referrer), and an in-person assessment by the referrer within 30 days (A69).
Common rejections
- A4D: Invalid specialty for the code; complex dermatology assessments are for continuing management by a dermatology specialist (A93, GP9).
- AT2: This code is video only in Appendix J; billing it with the phone indicator K301A is not allowed (AJ2, A70).
