Error code

EG1 — Group not Eligible

Group not eligible

The group billing number on the claim wasn't eligible, so the claim was rejected.

What to do: Confirm the physician was affiliated with that group on the service date; otherwise bill under the right group or as solo.

Code
EG1
Description
Group not Eligible

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

EG1 means the group on the claim isn't eligible. Check the group number used and the group's registration on the service date.

What it means

EG1 means the group billing number on the claim was not eligible, so the claim was rejected. The Ministry's error list gives no further detail.

Common causes

  • A typing error in the group number
  • The claim used a group the physician wasn't billing under on the service date
  • The group wasn't eligible to bill this service

How to fix it

  1. Check the group number on the claim.
  2. Confirm the physician was affiliated with that group on the service date.
  3. If the claim should have been billed under a different group, or as a solo claim, correct it and resubmit. Resubmit within three months of the service date if you can. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process.

Don't resubmit if

  • Nothing has changed. Sending the same claim again will reject again.
