Error code

EQB — Solo billing number inactive on service date

Can't bill solo

The billing number couldn't bill as a solo practitioner on the service date, for example inactive or registered for group billing only.

What to do: Check your solo registration covered the date; if you bill only through a group, resubmit with the group number.

Code
EQB
Description
Solo billing number inactive on service date

Explanation

Updated October 26, 2026

EQB means the solo billing number on the claim wasn't active, or can't bill solo, on the service date. Check registration and how the claim was billed.

What it means

EQB means the billing number was not able to bill as a solo practitioner on the date of service. The Ministry lists these reasons: the solo practitioner was inactive on that date; the number is a midwife number (700000–722899), which can be used only for referrals; a chiropractor billed with a Claim Submission Number (CSN); or the physician is registered for group billing only.

Common causes

  • Your solo billing registration had not started yet, or had ended, on the service date
  • You are registered to bill only through a group, but the claim went out without the group number
  • A midwife number was put in the billing number field instead of the referring field

How to fix it

  1. Check the service date and whether your solo registration covered it.
  2. If you bill only through a group, resubmit with the group number on the claim.
  3. If a midwife or other referring number ended up in the billing field, move it to the referring field.
  4. If your registration should have been active, contact the Ministry to correct it before resubmitting.
  5. Resubmit the corrected claim within three months of the service date. If that window has passed but the claim was first submitted on time, use the Ministry's stale-dated resubmission process.

Don't resubmit if

  • Your registration did not cover the service date. Resubmitting will not help until it is fixed.
