OHIP billing code for injection
Updated October 26, 2026
Bill G373A ($7.90) for the first intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injection when the injection is the only reason for the visit, and G372A ($4.55) for each extra injection. When you also bill an assessment, every injection is G372A. G700 doesn't apply to G372 or G373; it's for (+) procedures such as vaccines.
| Code | What it is | Fee | When to bill it |
|---|---|---|---|
| G373A | IM, subcutaneous or intradermal injection, sole reason (first injection) | $7.90 | The injection is the only reason for the visit. |
| G372A | IM, subcutaneous or intradermal injection, with visit (each injection) | $4.55 | Each injection at a visit where another service is billed, and each extra injection after G373. |
| G538A | Other immunizing agents | $8.80 | A vaccine with no code of its own. Specific vaccines have their own codes (G840A to G849A, G590A, G593A). |
| G700A | Sole-reason visit premium for (+) procedures | $8.80 | Only with procedures marked (+), such as vaccines, when they are the only reason for the visit. Not with G372 or G373. |
| G384A | Trigger point infiltration | $8.85 | Trigger point injection; G385A for each extra site, maximum 2. |
How to bill it
Injection only (for example a B12 or medroxyprogesterone shot with no assessment): G373A for the first injection, G372A for each additional one (J54).
Injection during a visit you bill (A001A, A007A and so on): the visit + G372A for each injection (J54).
Vaccines aren't G372/G373. Bill the vaccine's own code ($8.80 each; COVID-19 G593A $13.00) and add G700A once when vaccines are the only reason for the visit (J3, J54). FHO and FHN physicians bill Q590A instead of G700 for a flu-shot-only visit.
Joint, bursa and tendon sheath injections have their own codes (G370A, G371A), as do trigger points (G384A, G385A) and intravenous injections (G379A) (J53–J55).
Billing rules
- G372 and G373 include interpretation (J54).
- Not insured for vitamin injections given to help with weight loss (J54).
- G372 and G373 aren't marked (+), so G700 isn't payable with them (J3, J54).
- G700 is once per patient per day, not payable in hospital, and paid at 15% for patients enrolled to a capitation-based group (J3).
- G372, G373 and vaccines may be delegated to a trained employee in your office, even when you're not on site, for your own patient. The chart must be dated and name who gave the injection (GP62, GP63).
- G372 is on the list of services payable the same day as counselling; G373 isn't (GP58).
- FHO: G372 and G373 are in-basket core services (Agreement p.77). G538 and G840 to G848 are Schedule 2B codes with 50% shadow billing for enrolled patients (Agreement p.59 §4.4).
Common rejections
- A3H: More services were billed on the line than OHIP allows. Bill one G372 per injection actually given and check the count wasn't keyed wrong.
Questions
What is the OHIP billing code for injection?
Bill G373A ($7.90) for the first intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injection when the injection is the only reason for the visit, and G372A ($4.55) for each extra injection. When you also bill an assessment, every injection is G372A. G700 doesn't apply to G372 or G373; it's for (+) procedures such as vaccines.

Can my nurse give the injection and I still bill it?
Yes, if the nurse is your employee, is trained, the patient is your own, and the chart is dated and names the nurse. G372 and G373 are on the list of delegated procedures payable even when you aren't on site (GP62, GP63).
What's the code for an allergy shot?
Allergy hyposensitisation has its own code, G202A ($7.15 per injection), not G372 (J4).
