Explanation
Updated October 26, 2026
The first IM, subcutaneous or intradermal injection when the injection is the only reason for the visit. Extra injections are G372.
What it covers
G373 pays for the first intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injection when the injection is the sole reason for the visit (J54). Each additional injection at that visit is billed as G372.
The listing includes interpretation (J54). If the patient is also assessed at the visit, the injection isn't the sole reason: bill the assessment and G372 instead.
Billing rules
- Bill G373 only when the injection is the sole reason for the visit; bill each additional injection as G372 (J54).
- Not insured for vitamin injections given to help with weight loss (J54).
- G373 is not marked (+), so do not add G700; G373 is itself the sole-reason fee (J3, J54).
- G373 is not on the list of services payable on the same day as counselling by the same physician (GP58).
- May be delegated to a trained employee in your office, even when you are not on site, for your own patient; the chart must be dated and name who gave the injection (GP62–GP63).
- For a nursing home or home for the aged patient under W010 monthly management, injections by any physician that month are included in W010 (GP51).
- FHO: a Schedule 2 core (in-basket) service (Agreement p.77).
Often billed with
- G372 for each additional injection at the same sole-reason visit (J54).
Common rejections
- EH2: The health card version code on the claim doesn't match OHIP's record, often because the patient has a newer card; get the current version code and resubmit.
- EQB: OHIP describes this as 'Solo billing number inactive on service date': the solo billing number on the claim wasn't active on the day of service.
- VJ7: OHIP received the claim more than three months after the service date, so it was rejected as stale-dated (GP9).
- VH9: The health number on the claim isn't registered with the Ministry; check it against the patient's card and resubmit.
- EH4: OHIP's record shows the patient's coverage ended before the service date; confirm the health number and service date, then the patient's coverage.
