Acute home care supervision: advice to Ontario Health atHome staff, in the first 8 weeks after home care admission. One per week per physician.

What it covers

Home care supervision is personally giving medical advice, direction or information to staff of Ontario Health atHome or its contractor about a patient you give ongoing medical care to (A59).

K071 is the acute rate, for the first 8 weeks after the patient's admission to the Ontario Health atHome home care program (A59).

Billing rules

  • Maximum one per patient per physician per week, for 8 weeks after admission to home care (A59).
  • Maximum two per patient per week, from all physicians, for those 8 weeks (A59).
  • Record the date and the advice, direction or information in the patient's chart, and the staff person's name if given verbally; without it the payment is nil (A59).
  • Pays nil on the same day as a consultation or visit by you with the same patient (A59).
  • Not payable to any physician in a week when G512 palliative case management is billed (J102).
  • G511 isn't payable for the same telephone call claimed as K071 (J101).
  • FHO: on the long-term care base-rate list (Agreement Schedule 2A, p.85) but not the community in-basket list (Schedule 2, p.79).

Often billed with

  • K070 home care referral form, once per home care admission (A58, A59).

Common rejections

  • EH2: The health card version code doesn't match OHIP's record, often because the patient has a newer card; get the current version code and resubmit (EH2 guide).
